Global Partnerships
The curriculum was developed and implemented by an elite group of professional journalists and highly qualified Arab and foreign university professors in partnership with leading journalism professors from Columbia University (USA), City University of London (UK), the Superior School of Journalism of Lille (France), and the Technical University of Dortmund (Germany), with contributions from the American University of Beirut’s professional journalism training program and a group of media specialists and academics in Jordan.
Practical Focus
The Institute focuses on practical fieldwork, teaching students the fundamentals of journalism and media, and training them to produce written, visual, and audio journalistic material using the latest media and digital technologies. Taught by distinguished Arab and foreign university professors, the program provides practical training conditions that simulate real working environments in various media institutions, featuring radio and television studios and modern field photography equipment. The program is further enhanced by a series of training sessions and workshops conducted by specialized trainers from international journalism institutes such as the Norwegian Institute of Journalism and Deutsche Welle Academy.
Global Standards & AI
The design of JMI’s curriculum adheres to the highest international journalism standards while respecting the specificities of the Arab media and cultural environment. Arabic is the primary language of instruction to keep pace with technical and conceptual developments in the world of media and journalism—both in technical applications and new journalistic formats such as mobile journalism, data journalism, investigative journalism, solutions journalism, and recently, AI-powered production tools. The program also adopts the latest and most effective media teaching methods and hosts prominent local, regional, and international speakers, allowing students from all cultural and academic backgrounds to engage with diverse experiences and interact with outstanding professionals.
Ethical & Professional Values
Fieldwork represents the largest part of the program, supported by students' cultural development through introduction to key concepts, theories, intellectual trends, and local/global current affairs. The Institute places special importance on intellectual and value-based development, nurturing critical thinking and analytical skills, and strengthening students' sense of responsibility and awareness of media’s societal functions, while respecting professional and ethical standards rooted in human rights. JMI allocates a significant portion of its program to ethical qualifications, focusing on accuracy, honesty, and credibility, enabling students to enter the labor market armed with field experience and professional and human values.
Media Literacy
The Institute complements its academic program with training in media literacy principles at local and regional levels through its Media and Digital Literacy Academy and the Akeed Media Monitor for news verification. It also plays an active role in organizing regional conferences, media events, and seminars, publishing media studies, and actively participating in international and local conferences.
Academic Details
The program consists of 33 credit hours, and the Master’s degree is awarded by the Council of Deans at the University of Jordan. This degree qualifies holders to pursue doctoral studies at local, regional, and international universities after one intensive year. The Institute offers two shifts—morning and evening—providing high flexibility for a wide range of students to align with their work circumstances. Both shifts include diverse methodological activities and training events that support the curriculum and enhance cognitive and technical skills.
